{"id":10026,"date":"2026-09-24T17:29:15","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T15:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/predication.net\/?p=10026"},"modified":"2026-09-24T17:29:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T15:29:17","slug":"how-is-christian-love-expressed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/predication.net\/?p=10026","title":{"rendered":"How is Christian love expressed?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Love is one of the most frequently used words in our lives. We speak about love between husband and wife, parents and children, friends, or love for one&#8217;s country. Christianity, however, gives the word <em>love<\/em> an even deeper meaning. For a Christian, love is not merely a feeling. It is a way of life that has its origin in God. Saint John writes, &#8220;God is love\u201d (1 John 4:8). Therefore, anyone who wants to live in communion with God must learn to love.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jesus showed us that true love is expressed above all through actions. It is not enough to say, \u201cI love you.\u201d Love becomes real when we are willing to do something for another person, to make a sacrifice, to give our time, to listen, to help, or to forgive.<\/h2>\n<h2>1. Christian love notices the person who needs help.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus tells us about a man who was left wounded by the roadside. People passed by and saw him, but they did not stop. The Samaritan not only saw him; he noticed his suffering and helped him.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is where Christian love begins: noticing another person.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">We often do not need to do extraordinary things. Sometimes it is enough to visit a lonely person, call someone who is going through a difficult time, help an elderly person, encourage someone who is sad, or simply listen patiently to someone who needs to talk.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">We can therefore ask ourselves: Do I really see the people around me? Or am I so occupied with my own problems that I no longer notice the problems of others?<\/h2>\n<h2>2. Love means knowing how to listen.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the greatest gifts we can give another person is our time and attention. We live in a world in which people speak a great deal but often listen very little.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Christian love is also expressed by allowing another person to speak. We do not immediately judge, criticise, or give advice. Sometimes a person does not need a solution. They simply need someone who will remain inside them and listen.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jesus encountered people in precisely this way. He stopped for them. He saw their worries, listened to them, and made them feel that their lives had value.<\/h2>\n<h2>3. Love is expressed through forgiveness.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>One of the most difficult forms of Christian love is forgiveness. Loving someone who is good to us is not very difficult. It is much harder to love someone who has hurt us.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Yet Jesus says, &#8220;Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you\u201d (Matthew 5:44).<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>To forgive does not mean saying that the wrong that was done was acceptable. Nor does it mean forgetting everything that happened. Forgiveness means refusing hatred and revenge. It means entrusting our pain to God and asking Him to heal our hearts.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Without forgiveness, love quickly ends when someone disappoints us. Christian love, however, is able to go further.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>4. Love is patient.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Saint Paul writes, &#8220;Love is patient, love is kind\u201d (1 Corinthians 13:4).<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Patience is one of the most practical expressions of love. We need it in marriage, in family life, at work, in the parish, and among friends.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Every person has weaknesses. If we want to live with others, we must learn to accept their imperfections as well. Of course, love does not mean approving everything another person does. True love is also able to speak the truth. But it speaks the truth with respect and with the desire to help rather than to humiliate.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>5. Love does not calculate what it will receive in return.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The world often asks, &#8216;What will I get out of this?&#8217; Christian love asks a different question: What can I give?<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jesus showed us a love that gives without calculating the reward. He helped the sick, welcomed sinners, defended the weak, and finally gave His life on the cross.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The cross is the greatest sign of Christian love. Jesus does not merely speak about love. He lives it to the very end: \u201cNo one has greater love than this, to lay down one&#8217;s life for one&#8217;s friends\u201d (John 15:13).<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our love, too, must be capable of sacrifice. Parents make sacrifices for their children. Husbands and wives make sacrifices for each other. Someone cares for a sick member of the family. Another gives time to a lonely person. It is often in such quiet and unnoticed sacrifices that the greatness of love is revealed.<\/h2>\n<h2>6. Christian love excludes no one.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>The love of Jesus crossed boundaries. He spoke with people whom society rejected. He welcomed sinners, touched the sick, and gave His attention to the poor and those who were pushed aside.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Therefore, a Christian cannot ask only, &#8216;Whom do I love?&#8217; We must also ask: Whom do I find difficult to love?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Perhaps it is someone with a very different personality. Perhaps it is someone who has disappointed us. Perhaps it is someone with whom we strongly disagree. It is precisely there that Christian love is put to the test.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Love does not mean that we have to agree with everyone. It does mean, however, that we recognise the human dignity of every person and see each person as someone created by God.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>7. Love begins in everyday life.<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Sometimes we dream about great acts of love but forget the small opportunities God gives us every day.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Christian love is expressed in simple things: a kind word, a smile, patience, a willingness to help, visiting the sick, calling someone who is lonely, making peace after an argument, or praying for someone who is going through a difficult time.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>We do not need to wait for extraordinary circumstances. A person can grow in holiness precisely through the way he or she treats the people encountered every day.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Jesus said to His disciples, &#8220;By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another\u201d (John 13:35).<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>He did not say that people would recognise us by great words or extraordinary abilities. The most convincing sign of Christian life should be love.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Therefore, every evening we can ask ourselves a simple question: To whom did I show love today?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Perhaps we helped someone. Perhaps we listened to someone. Perhaps we forgave. Perhaps we prayed for someone. And perhaps we failed to notice someone who needed us.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>But God gives us another opportunity with every new day.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Christian love does not begin with great words. It begins with open eyes, a willing heart, and hands ready to help. And the more we learn to love in this way, the more our lives become an image of God, because God is love.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Love is one of the most frequently used words in our lives.
