holidays<\/b>\u00a0(abbreviated\u00a0<b>Holidays<\/b>\u00a0) are\u00a0<a title=\"Christianity\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kres%C5%A5anstvo\">Christian\u00a0<\/a><a title=\"Holiday\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sviatok\">holidays<\/a>\u00a0of the birth\u00a0<a title=\"Jesus Christ\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Je%C5%BEi%C5%A1_Kristus\">of Jesus Christus<\/a>,today and in general &#8211; by Christians and non-Christians alike &#8211; holidays of peace and peace celebrated at the same time.\u00a0As a religious and cultural festival, they are celebrated by billions of people around the world\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vianoce#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>.\u00a0They are preceded by a preparatory period (\u00a0<a title=\"Advent\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Advent\">Advent<\/a>\u00a0) and continue with the Christmas octave, or the holiday or the period called the <a title=\"Christmas season\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Viano%C4%8Dn%C3%A9_obdobie\">Christmas season<\/a>\u00a0 The days from December 24 to 26 are <a title=\"List of holidays in Slovakia\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zoznam_sviatkov_na_Slovensku\">n<\/a>on-working on-workingon-working day says, and as famila y or social eveventshey are also celebrated by most non-Christians, who sometimes refer to them only generally as &#8220;holidays&#8221;, which does not indicate their Christian aspect.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Christmas belongs (along with\u00a0<a title=\"Easter\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ve%C4%BEk%C3%A1_noc\">Easter<\/a>\u00a0) to the most important Christian holidays,\u00a0<a title=\"25. december\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/25._december\">December 25<\/a>\u00a0is a\u00a0<a title=\"Church holiday\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cirkevn%C3%BD_sviatok\">holiday<\/a>\u00a0in almost all Christian churches\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vianoce#cite_note-2\">[2]\u00a0<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vianoce#cite_note-3\">[3<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0.\u00a0Many folk traditions, songs (\u00a0<a class=\"mw-disambig\" title=\"Ugly\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Koleda\">carols<\/a> ), and decorations.<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"Defin\u00edcia\" the actual historical date of the birth of Jesus Christ.\u00a0December 25 is documented as a church holiday for the first time in\u00a0<a class=\"new\" title=\"Filokalo's calendar (site does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Filokalov_kalend%C3%A1r&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Philokal&#8217;s calendar<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0<a title=\"354\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/354\">354<\/a>, hich drew on Roman sources (&#8220;Depositio Martyrum&#8221;) from\u00a0<a title=\"336\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/336\">336<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vianoce#cite_note-7\">[7]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The origin of this date is disputed.\u00a0It is often pointed to a possible connection with the\u00a0<a title=\"Roman mythology\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/R%C3%ADmska_mytol%C3%B3gia\">Roman<\/a>\u00a0festival of the solar deity, the so-called\u00a0<i>Dies Natalis Solis Invicti<\/i>\u00a0\u2013 The Feast of the Birth of the Invincible Sun \u2013 which was also celebrated on December 25, overlapping with the traditional date of the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Winter solstice\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zimn%C3%BD_slnovrat\">winter solstice<\/a>.\u00a0Even some early Christian authors connected the birth of Christ with the feast of the rebirth of the sun\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-8\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vianoce#cite_note-8\">[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The latest opinions on the origin of the date of Christmas are presented by historian William Tighe.\u00a0He claims that the Church chose December 25th to celebrate Christmas because the ancient Jews believed that Israel&#8217;s prophets were conceived on the same day they died, and Roman Christians in\u00a0<a title=\"Tertullian\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tertuli%C3%A1n\">Tertullian<\/a>\u00a0&#8216;s time calculated that Christ died on March 25th.\u00a0That&#8217;s why Christmas fell on December 25th &#8211; they simply added nine months to that date and came up with the supposed birth date of Jesus Christ.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-9\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vianoce#cite_note-9\">[9]<\/a><\/sup><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eastern churches originally celebrated the Nativity of Jesus Christ as part of the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Epiphany\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bohozjavenie\">Epiphany<\/a>\u00a0on January 6.\u00a0<sup class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vianoce#cite_note-10\">[10]<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">In many countries, December 24 and 25 are non-working days. <\/span><i style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Somewhere, the Second Christmas Day<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0is similarly celebrated\u00a0(in the Roman Catholic calendar, St.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><a class=\"mw-redirect\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\" title=\"Saint Stephen the First Martyr\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sv%C3%A4t%C3%BD_%C5%A0tefan_Prvomu%C4%8Den%C3%ADk\">Stephen&#8217;s Day<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vianoce#cite_note-10\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> , n the Greek Catholic and Orthodox calendars,\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"font-size: 16px;\">the Gathering (Choir) to the Blessed Virgin Mary<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">, n the Anglo-Saxon countries, the so-called\u00a0<\/span><\/a><a class=\"new\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\" 25th, Roman Catholics focus their celebration mainly around midnight between December 24th and 25th.\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" title=\"Mass (religious service)\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Om%C5%A1a_(bohoslu%C5%BEba)\">MasM<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">ass is<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">is celebrated in this way directly at midnight and is therefore called\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" title=\"Midnight Mass\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polno%C4%8Dn%C3%A1_om%C5%A1a\">midnight mass<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> .\u00a0n\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 16px;\" title=\"Roman Missal\" href=\"https:\/\/sk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/R%C3%ADmsky_mis%C3%A1l\">the Roman Missal<\/a><span
