{"id":8452,"date":"2025-04-01T17:43:56","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T15:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/predication.net\/?p=8452"},"modified":"2025-04-01T17:43:57","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T15:43:57","slug":"to-whom-and-through-whom-do-we-give-thanks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/predication.net\/?p=8452","title":{"rendered":"To whom and through whom do we give thanks?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Scripture testifies that I should give thanks above all to God the Father through and in the name of the Lord Jesus: <\/span><em><span>\u201eBut let it be\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>Thank God through Jesus Christ<\/span><\/strong><span>, our Lord!\u201c\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span>(Rom 7.25)<\/span><em><span>; \u201eAnd everything, whatever you say or do, do everything\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>in the name of the Lord Jesus and through him give thanks to God the Father<\/span><\/strong><span>.\u201c\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span>(Kol 3,17)<\/span><em><span>; \u201eStaturally\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>give thanks<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0for everything to God and the Father\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ<\/span><\/strong><span>.\u201c\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span>(Ef 5,20)<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Naturally, if we are truly grateful to God, we will not be ungrateful even to angels, saints, people, and his entire creation; on the contrary.<\/h2>\n<p><strong><span>How to give thanks to God?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Just as we can sin with thoughts, words, and deeds, we can also give thanks through the same channels:<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>1. Thoughts \u2013 because \u201e<\/span><em><span>mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart\u201c\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span>(Mt 12,33)<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>2. In words \u2013 using the mind (1Cor 14,15) and using the spirit \u2013 giving thanks with the gift of languages (1Cor 14,16;17), singing (Ps 28,7), praising\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>3. By deeds \u2013 fulfilling God&#8217;s will not only out of obedience, but also out of gratitude, for what the Lord has done for us, fulfilling the promises given to God, laying down life for the gospel (Ps 116,12\u201315). Whoever cultivates gratitude in his heart will find the most diverse reasons for giving thanks. Unfortunately, it also works in the opposite direction with an attitude of ingratitude.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong><span>Why did the Apostles give thanks?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>We also find a beautiful pattern in the first ambassadors of the Lord Jesus and the pillars of the Church \u2013 in the Apostles. And why did they give thanks? This is what the Apostle of Nations Saint Paul shows us in his letters:\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for victory in Christ<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (1Kor 15.57; 2Kor 2.14);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for conversion<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (Rim 6,17);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for salvation<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (2Sol 2,13);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for accepting God&#8217;s word<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (1Sol 2,13);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for God&#8217;s grace<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (1Kor 1.4; 1Tim 1.12);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for the faith of believers in the Lord Jesus<\/span><\/em><span> \u2013 (Rom 1.8; Ef 1.15\u201316; Kol 1.3\u20134; 1 Sol 1.2\u20133; 2Sol 1.3); <\/span><em><span>for the love of believers among themselves<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (Ef 1.15\u201316; Kol 1.3\u20134; 1Sol 1.2\u20133; 2Sol 1.3);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for the hope of believers<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (1Sol 1,2\u20133);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for the participation of believers in the Gospel<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (Flp 1,3; 5);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for fellow servants<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (2Tim 1.3; Flm 1.4);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for the care of servants<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (2Kor 8,16);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for donations received<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0(Flp 4,10\u201320);\u00a0<\/span><em><span>for the gift of languages<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 (1Kor 14,18).<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>This is only a calculation recorded by Scripture (ten real it would hardly be possible to write completely), but it still shows us what came from the apostolic hearts and mouths.<\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72013\" src=\"https:\/\/christianitas.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/vdaky-5-Jeroni-Jacint-Espinosa-Adoracia-Eucharistie-Picryl-.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christianitas.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/vdaky-5-Jeroni-Jacint-Espinosa-Adoracia-Eucharistie-Picryl-.jpg 760w, https:\/\/christianitas.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/vdaky-5-Jeroni-Jacint-Espinosa-Adoracia-Eucharistie-Picryl--223x300.jpg 223w, https:\/\/christianitas.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/vdaky-5-Jeroni-Jacint-Espinosa-Adoracia-Eucharistie-Picryl--297x400.jpg 297w, https:\/\/christianitas.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/vdaky-5-Jeroni-Jacint-Espinosa-Adoracia-Eucharistie-Picryl--600x808.jpg 600w\" alt=\"\" width=\"760\" height=\"1024\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><span>Jeroni Jacint Espinosa,\u00a0<\/span><em><span>Adoration of the Eucharist<\/span><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><span>Thanksgiving in heaven<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span>Of course, all angels (Rev 7,12) and saints in Heaven give thanks. Four beings give thanks before sitting on the throne and living forever and ever (Rev 4.9), and neither do the 24 elders (Rev 11.17).<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong><span>Giving thanks to the Lord Jesus<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>The scribes also recorded several examples from the Lord Jesus. When propagating the bread, i.e. before eating (Mt 15.36; Mk 8.6; Jn 6.11; Mt 14.19; Mk 6.41; Lk 9.16); at the Last Supper, that is, before meals and during the celebration of the Eucharist (Mt 26.27; Mk 14.23; Lk 22.17; 19); at the resurrection of Lazarus (Jn 11.41); an example of how to recite a prayer (Flp 4.6).<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong><span>Thanksgiving = Eucharist<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><span>Eucharist<\/span><\/em><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: left;\">\u00a0is a Greek word that means Thanksgiving or gratitude. The adjective\u00a0<em>eucharist<\/em>ic also means satisfied, memorable favors (friends, services, favors). These words are used in almost all places where we have a translation\u2014Thanksgiving<\/span><span>, etc.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>But let&#8217;s go deeper into the word Eucharist for even deeper stimuli for contemplation. The word has two parts: <\/span><em><span>eu<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span><em><span>charisma<\/span><\/em><span>, in Greek exactly:\u00a0<\/span><em><span>eu<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 good,\u00a0<\/span><em><span>charizomai<\/span><\/em><span> \u2013 satisfy, give\/grant benevolently, provide free (sincere forgiveness), graciously restore each other, grant as a favor. At the same time, the word <\/span><em><span>charizomai<\/span><\/em><span> is from Gr.<\/span><em><span>\u00a0charis<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0\u2013 grace, thanks. And finally, a word\u00a0<\/span><em><span>chair,<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0he is from Gr.<\/span><em><span>\u00a0chairo\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span>\u2013 (the root of the word) <\/span><strong><span>\u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>extraordinary joy, to be full of cheerfulness, greetings. It is found approximately 77 times in the New Testament. After this hearty word mining\u00a0<\/span><em><span>Eucharist,<\/span><\/em><span> we could also translate its in-depth meaning:\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>to be full of good joy<\/span><\/strong><span>.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><span>Thanks to the analysis of this word, we can easily measure how we relate to God&#8217;s gifts and especially to the Giver himself, i.e., how we are \u201ethank givers\u201c.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>We know that the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ is present at the Eucharist, a type of which was also the Thanksgiving sacrifice in the Old Testament (2 King 29,31), for which we must be grateful in the very first place and on which all other thanks also depend.
