Dear brothers and sisters,<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In today\u2019s Gospel, Jesus says to his disciples: \u201cYou are the salt of the earth\u201d and \u201cYou are the light of the world.\u201d These words are not only a compliment; they are also a mission.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Salt may seem insignificant, yet even a small amount changes the taste of an entire meal. It also preserves food from decay. In the same way, Christians are called to bring the spirit of the Gospel into the world\u2014to preserve what is good, to resist evil, and to give hope where life has lost its meaning.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We become the salt of the earth when we speak kindly instead of hurting others, forgive instead of seeking revenge, defend the weak, help those in need, and remain honest even when dishonesty would be easier. Yet Jesus also warns us that salt can lose its taste. A Christian loses this spiritual taste when faith becomes merely an outward habit and no longer influences daily life.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Jesus also tells us: \u201cYou are the light of the world.\u201d Light does not exist for itself. It shines so that others may see the way. Our faith should therefore not remain hidden inside the church. It must become visible in our homes, workplaces, relationships, and decisions.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Christians are not called to draw attention to themselves, but to lead others toward God. Jesus says: \u201cLet your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.\u201d True goodness does not say, \u201cLook how good I am.\u201d It quietly says, \u201cLook how good God is.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Jesus then speaks about the Law and the Prophets: \u201cI have come not to abolish but to fulfil.\u201d He does not reject God\u2019s commandments. He reveals their deepest meaning and brings them to fulfilment through love. The commandments are not intended to burden us; they protect our relationship with God and with one another. They show us the way to genuine freedom and fullness of life.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We cannot choose only those parts of the Gospel that are comfortable for us. Jesus says that whoever ignores even one of the least commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. Faithfulness is often shown precisely in small things: in keeping our word, controlling our tongue, fulfilling our duties, respecting others, and praying even when we do not feel like it.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We may sometimes think that our lives are too ordinary to make any difference. But a little salt gives flavour to a whole meal, and a single light can overcome the darkness of an entire room. A sincere word, a patient response, a hidden sacrifice, or a small act of mercy can change someone\u2019s day\u2014and sometimes even someone\u2019s life.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Let us therefore ask ourselves: Does my presence bring peace or tension? Do my words give hope or cause pain? Can others recognise the light of Christ in the way I live?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Lord Jesus, preserve in us the salt of faith. Kindle in us the light of love. Help us to remain faithful to your word, even in small things, so that through our lives others may discover the goodness of our heavenly Father.<\/strong> Amen.<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
