Today we remember St Hieronymus, a man who correctly appreciated the value of God’s word as captured in the Holy Scriptures. He knew he was dealing with an immense treasure and drew from it constantly, as from a spring. He perfectly criticised what Jesus teaches in the Gospel: that the most important thing is what God says to man. What a person could say to the Lord God is not important. We have heard the reasoning of Job, who says that once he took the word, the second time he will not do it again \u2013 he will put his hand over his mouth (cf. Job 40, 4-5).<\/span><\/p>\n

My dears, what an invaluable instruction for us who pray, who, when we stand before God, very often do not close our mouths. And even if we do not open our mouths, we speak internally, constantly \u2013 we do not let the voice of the Lord God speak. While the Lord God has something important to tell us, we must listen. Conversion consists primarily in starting to listen to God and stopping to listen to ourselves. And how important it is, the Lord Jesus makes us aware in the word with which he sends his disciples: Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever despises you despises me. But whoever despises me despises the team that sent me (Lk 10, 16).<\/span><\/p>\n

We are disciples of Jesus. And He announces, ‘Whoever listens to you listens to Me. That is why we listen to God when we pray, so that when we speak, we do not speak from ourselves, but that God speaks through us. This is the role of every Christian, because after all, he sent everyone! And that is what Lord Jesus is asking us today. “When you open your mouth, do you speak for yourself or for me? Do people hear my word, my truth, or only yours?” What a wonderful Christian role it is to speak so that God can speak through me.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n
