The foundation of the Catholic Church is monotheism, the belief in one true God. In the Old Testament period, this fundamental doctrine was revealed by God to His people, who proclaimed it everywhere (cf.
\nDt 6:4-9), and it was confirmed by Christ (cf. Mk 12, 29 – 30). Belief in the one true God is challenged by many non-Christian groups, such as Mormons and Hindus (religions that believe in the existence of many gods). It is at the same time doctrine\u00a0that forms the basis of the Church’s teaching on the Trinity, one God in three persons.
