V\u00a0<\/span><span>Proverbs 25:22<\/span><span> it is written that when we do this, we sum embers on their heads. This metaphor refers to the process of smelting ore to obtain precious metals. Similarly, if we are kind to someone who hates us, it can figuratively melt their anger, so that the good that is in them comes to the surface.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"p15\" class=\"disableActiveState p15\" data-pid=\"15\"><strong><span id=\"link1\" class=\"refID\">\u00a0<\/span>For example, how can we show love to our enemies?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2 id=\"p16\" class=\"p16 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"16\"><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"6\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>\u201eDo good to those who hate you.\u201c<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0(<\/span><span>Luke 6:27<\/span><span>) In the Bible, for example, it is written: \u201e When your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat, when he is thirsty, give him something to drink.\u201c (<\/span><span>Romans 12:20<\/span><span>) There are other ways we can show love to our enemies. A principle known as the <\/span><span>Golden Rule<\/span><span>: \u201eAs you want people to do to you, do to them.\u201c (<\/span><span>Luke 6:31<\/span><span>)<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2 id=\"p17\" class=\"p17 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"17\"><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"7\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>\u201eYank those who curse you.\u201c<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0(<\/span><span>Luke 6:28<\/span><span>) We bless our enemies by speaking to them kindly and considerately, even when they insult us. The Bible says: \u201e Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but, on the contrary, bless.\u201c (<\/span><span>1.\u00a0Peter 3:9<\/span><span>, footnote) This advice can help us get out of the cycle of hate.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2 id=\"p18\" class=\"p18 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"18\"><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"8\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>\u201ePray for those who insult you.\u201c<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0(<\/span><span>Luke 6:28<\/span><span>) If someone insults you, \u201e don&#8217;t repay bad\u201c. (<\/span><span>Romans 12:17<\/span><span>) On the contrary, ask God to forgive him. (<\/span><span>Lu<\/span><span>k<\/span><span>e 23:34;<\/span><span>\u00a0A<\/span><span>c<\/span><span>ts 7:59, 60<\/span><span>) God has perfect standards of justice, so leave it to him and don&#8217;t try\u00a0<\/span><span>vengeance<\/span><span>. (<\/span><span>3.\u00a0Moses 19:18;<\/span><span> Romans 12:19\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"f2\" class=\"south_center\">\n<figure><a class=\"zoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cms-imgp.jw-cdn.org\/img\/p\/500100127\/univ\/art\/500100127_univ_cnt_3_xl.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"south_center\" src=\"https:\/\/cms-imgp.jw-cdn.org\/img\/p\/500100127\/univ\/art\/500100127_univ_cnt_3_lg.jpg\" alt=\"The same woman kindly offers a cup of tea to a colleague who is surprised by this.\" data-largest=\"https:\/\/cms-imgp.jw-cdn.org\/img\/p\/500100127\/univ\/art\/500100127_univ_cnt_3_lg.jpg\" data-smallest=\"https:\/\/cms-imgp.jw-cdn.org\/img\/p\/500100127\/univ\/art\/500100127_univ_cnt_3_xs.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"rule\">\n<h2 id=\"p21\" class=\"p21 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"21\"><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"11\">\u00a0<\/span><em><span>\u201e<\/span><strong><span>Love is patient and kind.<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0Love does not envy, does not boast, does not exalt itself, does not behave rudely, is not selfish, cannot be provoked, does not count wrongs. He does not enjoy injustice, but enjoys the truth. He endures everything, believes everything, hopes everything, perseveres everything. Love never fails.\u201c<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0(<\/span><span>1.\u00a0Corinthians 13:4\u20138<\/span><span>)<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"p22\" class=\"disableActiveState p22\" data-pid=\"22\"><span id=\"link2\" class=\"refID\">\u00a0<\/span><span>Should we fight our enemies?<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"p23\" class=\"p23 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"23\"><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"12\">\u00a0<\/span><span>No, Jesus did not teach his followers anything like that. For example, when he warned them of the impending attack on Jerusalem, he did not say to stay there and fight, but to flee. (<\/span><span>Luke 21:20, 21<\/span><span>) And besides that, he said to the apostle Peter: \u201e Give your sword back to the place. All who take the sword will perish by the sword.\u201c (<\/span><span>Matthew 26:52<\/span><span>) The Bible and historians confirm that Jesus&#8217; followers did not fight against their enemies in the first century.<\/span><span id=\"footnotesource1\" class=\"refID\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"footnoteLink jsHasModalListener jsNoScroll\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jw.org\/sk\/ucenie-biblie\/otazky\/milujte-svojich-nepriatelov-vyznam\/#footnote1\" data-anchor=\"#footnote1\"><span>a<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0(<\/span><span>2 Timothy 2:24<\/span><span>)<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"p24\" class=\"disableActiveState p24\" data-pid=\"24\"><span id=\"link3\" class=\"refID\">\u00a0<\/span><span>Misconceptions about what it means to love your enemies<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"p25\" class=\"p25 disableActiveState\" data-pid=\"25\"><strong><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"13\">\u00a0<\/span>Misconception:\u00a0God&#8217;s Law commanded the Israelites to hate their enemies.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div id=\"tt26\" class=\"borderSolid--bottom\">\n<h2 id=\"p26\" class=\"p26 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"26\"><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"14\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>Fact:<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0The law did not contain any such order. On the contrary, he commanded them to love their neighbors. (<\/span><span>3.\u00a0Moses 19:18<\/span><span>) The term \u201e refers to people in general. However, some Jews considered only Jews as their neighbors. And they looked upon the non-Jews as enemies to hate. (<\/span><span>Matthew 5:43, 44<\/span><span>) Jesus pointed out their wrong opinion when he told the parable of the <\/span><span>good Samaritan<\/span><span>. (<\/span><span>Lukas 10:29\u201337<\/span><span>)<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"p27\" class=\"p27 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"27\"><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"15\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>Misconception:<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0To love one&#8217;s enemies is to approve of their wrongdoing.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"p28\" class=\"p28 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"28\"><span class=\"parNum refID\" data-pnum=\"16\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span>Fact:<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0According to the Bible, we can love someone while disagreeing with their wrongdoing. For example, even though Jesus condemned violence, he prayed for those involved in his execution. (<\/span><span>Luke 23:34<\/span><span>) And even though Jesus hated sin, he gave his life for sinners. (<\/span><span>John 3:16;<\/span><span>\u00a0Romans 6:23<\/span><span>)<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"groupFootnote\">\n<div id=\"footnote1\">\n<h2 id=\"p30\" class=\"disableActiveState p30\" data-pid=\"30\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><em><span>The Rise of Christianity<\/span><\/em><span> (Rise of Christianity) by E.\u00a0Barnes states: \u201eA careful survey of all available sources shows that until the days of Mark Aurelius [rom emperor in 161 \u2013 180 AD], no Christian became a soldier and no soldier, when he became a Christian, he did not remain in military service.\u201c<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"boxSupplement\">\n<aside>\n<div id=\"p32\" class=\"boxTtl rule disableActiveState p32\" data-pid=\"32\">\n<h2><span id=\"link4\" class=\"refID\">\u00a0<\/span><span>Bible verses about love for enemies<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"boxContent\">\n<h2 id=\"p33\" class=\"p33 disableActiveState\" data-pid=\"33\"><strong><span>2.\u00a0Moses 23:5<\/span><\/strong><strong><span>:<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0\u201eIf you see that the donkey of someone who hates you has fallen under its load, you will not turn away and leave. You will help him free the animal.\u201c<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"p34\" class=\"p34 disableActiveState\" data-pid=\"34\"><strong><span>What does it mean:<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0We show love for the enemy by helping him when he needs it.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"p35\" class=\"p35 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"35\"><strong><span>Proverbs 24:17, 18<\/span><\/strong><strong><span>:<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0\u201e When your enemy falls, do not rejoice, and when he stumbles, let not your heart rejoice, for when it is Jehovah<\/span><span id=\"footnotesource2\" class=\"refID\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"footnoteLink jsHasModalListener jsNoScroll\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jw.org\/sk\/ucenie-biblie\/otazky\/milujte-svojich-nepriatelov-vyznam\/#footnote2\" data-anchor=\"#footnote2\"><span>b<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0he&#8217;ll see, he won&#8217;t like it, and he&#8217;ll turn his anger away from him.\u201c<\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"tt34\" class=\"borderSolid--bottom\">\n<h2 id=\"p36\" class=\"p36 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"36\"><strong><span>What does it mean:<\/span><\/strong><span> God does not want us to take pleasure in the misfortune of our enemies, even within ourselves.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"p37\" class=\"p37 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"37\"><strong><span>Luke 6:28<\/span><\/strong><strong><span>:<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0\u201e Bless those who curse you, pray for those who insult you.\u201c<\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"tt35\" class=\"borderSolid--bottom\">\n<h2 id=\"p38\" class=\"p38 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"38\"><strong><span>What does it mean:<\/span><\/strong><span> Speak kindly and respectfully to those who treat you, and ask God to forgive them.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"p39\" class=\"p39 disableActiveState\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-pid=\"39\"><strong><span>1.\u00a0Peter 2:23<\/span><\/strong><strong><span>:<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0\u201eWhen [Jesus] was insulted, he did not respond with insults.
