Do you love Me?

Today’s Gospel brings us to one to one of the most beautiful and deeply personal encounters between Jesus and Peter.The risen Jesus meets his disciples by the Sea of Tiberias.After they have eaten,Jesus  turns to Peter and ask him a question.

He doesn’t ask:Peter why did you deny me?He does not say.How could you abandon me when I needed you? Instead Jesus ask simply.Simon,son of John,do you love me?

Lord,you know that I love you.Peter’s answer is touching.The third time,however Peter becomes distressed.Perhaps he remembers his three denials.He no longer boasts about the strength of his faith.He simply says.Lord ,you know everything,you know that I love you.

Peter  has changed.Befor the Passion.Peter trusted very much in himself.I will remain faithful.I will never leave you.Now he trusts not in himself,but in Jesus.
