Are there few will be saved?

Today we will look at a susceptible topic: the number of the saved. It is not about sensationalism, exact numbers, or “sending people to Hell”. It is about seeking and confronting the truth (which liberates). Christian love naturally leads us to desire the salvation of souls – first, our souls, and then all others. After all, “God wants all people to be saved and to know the truth”. But who wants to know her today? And right after that, Paul adds that there is only “one mediator between God and men – the man Christ Jesus” (1 Tim 2:4-5). Today, this second part is (un)intentionally forgotten. Therefore, let’s look again at what the Church teaches us about it.

In this first part, we will present the testimony of the Holy Scriptures and the statements of some Church Fathers and Teachers. In the second part, the sayings of many saints and the teachings of general councils and popes.

Holy Scripture Lk 24.47: “… and in his (Jesus’) name,
repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached to all nations, starting from Jerusalem .” Jn 3.36: “He who believes in the Son has eternal life, but he who does not believe in the Son, he will not see life and God’s wrath will rest on him (a more accurate translation of the Greek name = remains, continues ).” (That is, it was already on him before).

Rom 10.8–17: But what does he say? ” The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”; namely the word of faith that we preach. Because if you confess with your mouth: “Jesus is Lord!” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart we believe unto righteousness, and with the mouth we confess unto salvation. After all, the Scripture says: “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.”

There is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same is the Lord of all, rich to all who call on him: For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how will they call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how do they hear without a preacher? And how will they preach if they are not sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news.” But not all obeyed the gospel. Isaiah also says: “Lord, who believed what we preached?” That is, faith comes from preaching and preaching through Christ’s word.

Heb 11:6: “For without faith it is impossible to please God.”

Rom 1:18-32: “God’s wrath from heaven is revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth by unrighteousness. After all, it is obvious to them what can be known about God; God revealed it to them . After all, what is invisible in him – his eternal power and divinity – can be known by reason from created things since the creation of the world; so they have no excuses. Although they knew God , they did not glorify him as God, nor did they give him thanks; but they were lost in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Saint Margarett Queen of Scotland,

The story of Saint Margaret shows how life can treat a person in a crazy way. She was born in Hungary in 1045 as the daughter of a British king who had fled the country. She grew up in England, became Queen of Scotland, and her remains now rest in Spain. But anyone who, like Saint Margaret of Scotland, firmly believes in divine providence will reach the high goal for which God has chosen them, even by crooked paths.

The fact that Saint Margaret was born in a foreign land, far from her homeland, is a clear sign of God’s providence. Out of this misfortune, the young princess found great happiness in that she saw with her own eyes the blessing that comes from a holy ruler. This ruler was the host of her parents, Saint Stephen of Hungary. The example that this prince, full of royal nobility, set for her in her youth was a guiding light for the salvation of the entire Scottish people when she herself became queen. So misfortune is not always misfortune, but can also be happiness.

When the royal family was later able to return to England, divine providence, which directs and guides everything for the best, soon showed itself for the second time in a new apparent misfortune. The father died, disputes over the throne broke out, and Margareta and her brother Edgar had to flee the country in a hurry. And because, as we all know, no misfortune comes alone, the storm drove the ship they were trying to use to reach the mainland far off course to the north, where it was wrecked on the Scottish coast. King Malcolm of Scotland welcomed the castaways hospitably, soon fell in love with Margareta, asked for her hand in marriage, and when she said yes to him, they celebrated their wedding. The fugitive princess had become a queen. So misfortune is not always misfortune, it can also be good fortune.

A little later, however, it turned out that the new happiness had brought with it a new misfortune. Malcolm was a daredevil and a quarrelsome man, and a miser at that, who committed many wrongs in his hot temper, and if this man had found a wife of the same kind, the misfortune would probably never have ended. Therefore, divine providence once again arranged that the hot-tempered king received a wife in Margareta who ennobled him and transformed him not only into a good person, but also into a capable ruler, so that the whole country was grateful to the queen.

Beautiful and happy years followed. The royal family was a haven of love and peace. Six sons and two daughters made the parents happy, and none of the children ever brought them disgrace. They all thrived; Margaret herself taught them to pray and explained the catechism and the Bible to them. But one should not think that the queen was squeamish in her upbringing. For example, if one of the princes was punished by a teacher for doing something wrong and complained to his mother about it, she would give him a second beating. Margaret looked after the poor of the country with royal generosity. She fed up to three hundred people a day. The noble woman also visited hospitals and prisons, considering it her privilege as a kind mother of the country to look after the poorest in particular.

Thirty blessed years passed through all this. Then, in one last great misfortune, divine providence came upon the good queen once more. Margaret was dying when she was told that her husband and her beloved son had fallen in battle. She folded her hands and prayed: “God, I thank you that you have visited me with this great suffering before my end, in order to cleanse me of the stains of my sins so that I can come to you in heaven.” Margaret had penetrated so deeply into the understanding of divine providence that turns all misfortune into happiness, up to the highest happiness, which consists in eternal bliss.

You can guess the appearance of heaven.

Two Wolves: One evening, an old Indian took his grandson and told him about the battle that goes on inside each person. He told him, “Boy, the battle inside each of us is between two wolves.” One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sadness, selfishness, rudeness, hatred, self-pity, falsehood, arrogance, and ego. The other one is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, equanimity, modesty, kindness, empathy, generosity, faithfulness, compassion, and trust. The grandson thought about all this and after a minute asked, “And which wolf will win?” The old Indian replied: “The one you feed”.

This story is a metaphor for our life – for our heart, which is capable of doing good things as well as bad things. So a person can live as a saint, but also as a scoundrel. What does it matter? Of course, more things affect it, I’ll stop at one today. Today we will talk about the virtues that every person can have, precisely the queen virtue of Wisdom. By the way, it is also one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. If you want to know what the scriptures say about Wisdom, read the book. Look for God’s Wisdom, which will protect you from the evil way.

If one of you lacks Wisdom, let him ask God for it; he gives it to everyone in abundance and without reproach – and it will be given to him. The sound came to me together with Wisdom(Wisdom 7:11) Wisdom is an inexhaustible treasure for people(Wisdom 7:14)

Wisdom is not just something that I remember, that I naturally get hold of something like a degree, it’s not scholarship, it’s not just theory, knowledge. Story…. Like Sweden, where a man who sold barrels lived. He put them on a sled, harnessed a horse, and walked with them from village to village. Once, walking through the desert, he heard the howling of wolves when he was still far from the town. The horse was tired, and the howling could be heard getting closer. Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B Mark 13, 24-32

We heard the words of the Lord Jesus about the end of the world, about the signs of the last days. You say to yourself, nothing like that is happening yet; we can be calm; we don’t have to deal with eternity or the Lord God. After all, if it is going to happen, it won’t happen in a minute, but there will be enough time to put things in order. But with such an expression, such or similar reasoning, you escape the Lord God. You must have seen how a hare runs from a hunter to hide in its den.

Similarly, the human soul often tries to crawl into a lair, or, better said, it has a choice of five lairs: the inside of a person, sex, science, nature, and humanism. There are also five substitutes with which a person replaces God so he does not have to come into contact with him. The first replacement is the inside of a person. A person, tired of life, hopes that by diving into himself, some new secret about himself will appear and that it will save his life.

Today’s man is no longer like the people who lived in the three-dimensional world. They believed that heaven is above, hell is below, and the earth between them is a vestibule in which a person is for a specific time to say yes or no to eternal salvation. But over the centuries, people lost religious truths, morals declined, and people stopped considering themselves as inhabitants of the three-dimensional world. They limited their life to only one dimension: a house or apartment on this earth. And thanks to progress, evolution, and science, they feel that they can be gods on this earth and that paradise can be created here. However, wars, depression, and fears of other threats came into play, which robbed a man of hope about the earth. At the same time, the man had already managed to lose hope in heaven. As a result, he began to withdraw more and more into himself. This is where false scientists try to restore the three-dimensional world, but they place it inside man. Instead of heaven, earth, and hell, they speak of conscience, consciousness, and animal instincts and claim that if man penetrates these depths, he can gain energy and strength from there to bring peace and salvation to the world. Some have tried but ended up unsuccessful because when a person is closed in on himself, he is in bad company. He wanted to silence God, so he ended up in great misery. 

The second substitute that man chooses for God, or the second escape route, is sex. True love binds one to another permanently in fidelity and is unchangeable. However, erotic pleasure, if it becomes the goal, leads to promiscuity, and a person likes the other person only as long as he is the source of his joy. This sin tempts a person the most because other sins do not promise to cure us of loneliness and emptiness, as this sin promises at first glance. But the body is finite, and the soul is infinite. We can satisfy the solitude of the body but not the soul’s aspirations. This disproportion causes sadness and disappointment, and one sees that the escape is stupid. So he escapes and turns to science. Science cannot fully satisfy man’s hunger because the scientist is an observer of nature, its describer and chronicler, and the soul remains unsatisfied again because the language of nature is not the language of the heart, and even the freshest knowledge does not satisfy man permanently.

In more than science, study, and research, man escapes from God and into nature. He wants to hide in it like the first people. He wants to change the environment and lifestyle. He had already put a considerable speed on him. But God is faster than our wings, and nature cannot be misused against God because God created all things in nature, and so they remain faithful to God, and with their help, man cannot escape from Him. When a man has become disappointed in the pleasures of the senses and has not found lasting happiness through them, he can still seek satisfaction without God in humanism, which proclaims that if we work diligently for the brotherhood of man, we need not acknowledge the fatherhood of God. However, it was forgotten that we came from God and still belong to him and that it is impossible to build a brotherhood of people if they do not have a common Father. After these five substitutes and five ways of escape, man sees that he has suffered defeat and suddenly faces three new situations: the feeling of emptiness, later the fear of the cross, and finally, the final clinging to his challenge to love.

Discord can be caused by physical loneliness when we have lost a beloved wife, husband, or relative, it can be a moral emptiness that we feel when we feel guilty, or it can be mental that we have caused by living a mediocre life so far. Thus, a person experiences emptiness. If at such a moment he realizes that only God can fill it, and if after all this he admits that after all, if God exists, he can be tried and experienced, he has taken the first step on the way to him, to eternity, because eternity, that is God. Once he has recognized this, he can get the fear of the cross, the fear that when he went after God, he has to carry out Jesus’ call: “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross every day and follow me” (Lk 9, 23). You often hear: How can God allow this? However, the one who sincerely went towards God gradually realizes that no pain or sacrifice is unnecessary. God has never closed a door; if he did, he would open a window. He never created a void, and if he did, to fill it. Put out your hand as if you wanted to hug your neighbor. What do you see under your hand? Shadow. Suffering, crosses, hardships, and sorrows are only the shadow of his hand, outstretched to embrace.

When a person understands and accepts this, he reaches the third situation, the level of God’s love. God’s love is like the sun, its rays can be felt all around. Some don’t want to admit it. Imagine if there were only blind people and only three sighted people worldwide. For them to see, and no one else could become a severe problem for a group of psychologists. They would probably start by saying that if they are blind, then everyone must be blind. If the three seers claimed that we see the sun and all things under the sun – psychologists would call it a delusion because belief in the sun belongs to Persian mythology. Other psychologists from the world of the blind would say that the sighted suffer from a complex based on a morbid desire for light. And this is the behavior of those who say that God’s love is a myth, that God’s love is a superstition. Do you know what the scriptures say about that? He says: “Try and see for yourself how good the Lord is!” If the belief in God and the experience of God were a pure illusion, an invention, it would not move people to sacrifices, purity of morals, or humility, as it has been until now during the twenty centuries. And there are people among us who have tasted both worlds, both lives, escape and return. These are converts and penitents. They have known the anguish of conscience, disappointment, and defeat, and now they see the peace of a good conscience; they know how wonderful it is to be in God’s love.

Now, brothers and sisters, lift your hearts! Are you looking for comfort? This is because you are in an emptiness that only God can fill. Because only God is the love that completely satisfies a person. It is love, and love is what each of us needs. Let us hold fast to this love, to God. If we live in the state of God’s love, then when the great tribulation comes, when the sun darkens in our life when evening sets in, and not even the moon gives its shine, when all the stars we admired fall when God calls his elect from four corners of the world, we will be able to say the words that St. Karol Borromeo, when he was playing billiards and was asked what he would do if he learned that he would die shortly. He replied, “I would finish this game.” We, too, will be able to say that we will finish the present moment, finish our part of life, because we are in God’s plane, in the plane of his love; we don’t have to run anywhere; we are always with him. We count on it now; we always count on it, we count on eternity, and we live by it, so nothing surprises us, not even death.

Protestantization of the Church?

Tolkien literally” hated ” the changes in the liturgy after II. the Vatican Council, reports Ink and Fantasy. His biggest fear was that the Catholic Church was getting dangerously close to the attitudes of the Protestant churches, which he knew well as an English Catholic and convert. The document quotes one of the letters the Lord of the Rings author wrote to his son Michael in 1967, two years after the end of the council:

The” Protestant” search for backwardness for its “simplicity” and directness, which, of course, brings some good in itself, at least in understandable motives, is erroneous and indeed futile. A broken man

” Because of this, Tolkien, with his motives deep down in his soul, had an incredibly difficult time accepting the changes introduced by the Council. He disagreed with many of the decisions that were made on it. But he had to respect them. As a Catholic, he believed in the authority granted to the Pope and the importance of the Bishop of Rome for the Catholic Church, which, according to Tolkien, was the Church founded directly by Jesus Christ and the only instrument of salvation .”

The role of woman.

If Revelation contained only reports of the creation of the first pair of humans, this would be enough to indicate its divine origin. It is necessary to return there, in the confusion of today’s practice in marriage and feminism, for saving light and reliable directives.

Woman was created so that man would not be alone. If she was not equal to him, then his solitude would not be filled. The man welcomed her as a piece of himself: Behold, bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh. He could only understand an equal being that way.

She was to be his “socia”, companion, “adjutorium simile”, a helper similar to him and with him similar to the image of God. The help and support of a physically weaker being could consist primarily of her advice.

All this presupposes a brave, mentally strong woman. For the sake of order, the Creator silently left the primacy of the pair to the one whom he created first, after which he blessed himself as an equal and harmonious, complementary pair and forbade the separation of what he himself had joined. He put a woman under the power of a man only as a punishment for abusing her advice to a man.

The praise of a brave woman is sung by the Holy Spirit in Proverbs 31, 10-31. Her qualities should relate to a threefold role: being a companion, helper or support and therefore also an adviser.

Her strength as an equal and yet subordinate companion is in her tenderness, gentleness, sweetness, kindness and patience; he rewards a man with good and not with evil all the days of his life; he opens his hand to the needy and extends his palms to the poor; even at death he smiles and can smile even on the last day; the law of grace is on her tongue.

She is a man’s helper and support: a man’s heart trusts in her; he works according to the skill of his hands; he does not eat bread hastily; he also gets up at night when the house requires it; he buys and sells independently, considering whether the work is good and thus by his own doing increases the well-being of the family; he distributes food and procures clothes for the family, he also dresses himself sensibly; independently disposes of the work of his hands. But she is also a counsellor: she must gird her loins with strength when it is necessary to advise against a man’s will, she extends her hand to important matters, she publicly raises her warning voice in important matters, even if her hand holds the spindle. Honorable is the man in her gates, and he sits among the stewards of the earth, the man of her who opens her mouth to wisdom. For this, the man praises her; he finds that such a woman is above wealth; that grace is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.

Of all ways of companionship, support and help, advice is the most valuable; it leaves us our dignity, it helps in secret: it sharpens our intelligence, it moves our will.

A woman should advise, a man should decide.

The first woman betrayed the mission for which she was created. She betrayed her role as an inspirer, a counselor: through her body, she put herself under the control of an evil spirit, and by advising men to do evil, she put humanity in danger of damnation.

From that time until the Virgin Mary, women all over the world, and with only partial exceptions that typify or confirm the rule, lose their threefold dignity and influence as a wife. A man, debasing his companion to an object of pleasure, surrounds himself with the pride of solitude; condemning woman to ignorance, he is without a helper and alone in the field of thought and work; he decides on his own, without her advice and against her, and thus also commits the condemnation of God (Pilate)

Mary is coming, the Return of our salvation.

Maria – wife? … She seems to be at a loss for words, looking at the pure Joseph at her feet and not at her side… And yet – She has to say everything and says it in such a way that we are speechless.

The opposite of Eve, freed from the law of nature, from the bonds of carnality, escapes the power of the evil spirit in a supreme, sovereign way: She becomes betrothed to the Holy Spirit. The wonder, the mystery. Let’s kneel!

Wife of the Holy Spirit… How on earth will this girl fill God’s solitude?

And yet it seems as if God, who could save the world in a thousand other ways, would be too alone for this work, as if He needed Her.

Mary understands his idea of ​​Redemption, accepts it as her own, supports it with the highest suffering and sacrifice of which a person is capable, the pain of motherhood. The Holy Trinity accepts her participation in the greatest idea that has ever been, God’s idea of ​​Love.

Mary is the companion of God, she is the support of the child Jesus and his help even to the cross and the grave; she is a sweet inspiration to the Wonder Maker.

It is in the role of councilor that she has her own reward. This dignity of hers is extended to the whole world. He is the Seat of Wisdom for men, the immortal model of women. Her advice is the whisper of the Holy Spirit. His wife, she rules His possessions, holds all His graces in her hands; it becomes Heaven’s Gate.

The wife of the Holy Spirit is the most perfect model of a wife.

A Christian wife can stand no higher than when she is the bride of a man’s thought. Christian thought, Christian man: to realize the kingdom of God on earth.

Every other idea eventually results in how to make deadly bombs; but then women give birth to children in vain. A woman who is united to a man by an idea other than practical Christianity is senseless, perverted and uprooted. It leads to death and throws the family and the whole human society there.

Marriage according to the flesh has two purposes.

The first is the family, the continuation of the human race, which, redeemed by Christ, is to form the Kingdom of God on earth, preparation for the Kingdom of Heaven. The Christian wife is to serve this goal generously, humbly, devotedly, and bravely. The great sanctifying idea of ​​the kingdom of God in the souls of children will bring her closer to Mary, and only in this way will her children be born less from the will of men and from the will of blood and more from the Holy Spirit.

The secondary purpose of carnal marriage is the gratification of lust. That is, a medicine, not a stimulus. What would a Christian wife want with flirtatious fashion? How will she help a man in the fight with the body? How will she be able to be his counselor, his conscience, if her own conscience is dull?

And yet she should bring her husband “good and not evil all the days of her life”: Declina de malo et fac bonum… She should also gird herself with strength and in time of need thunder with the prophet: Woe to those who call good evil and evil good!

This is the task of all women, from the wife of a worker to the wife of a minister.

In the abyss of souls there is a call for a woman – a companion, a helper, a support, an adviser; it vibrates with the desire for the marriage of souls, which can be alive and life-giving only among Christians. The world, which has been derailed to its destruction by the proud, rebellious, God-rejecting man’s reason, will have to be set on the way to salvation by the help of woman; not by her working beside man and instead of man and according to man, but by working with and through man’s soul. As a man’s helper, so that he does not leave him alone at work, if he is a builder, she does not need to study architecture in order for her intuition to tell her whether a man is building the house of God or the Tower of Babel. In the first case, her warm interest will give him unsuspected inspirations for the whole and the detail, in the second, it will be his restless, restless and painful conscience.

And so all her companionship and help and support will be in her inspiration and advice, which she will draw from the Holy Spirit with intact intuition and Christian effort.

A woman suffering

Today’s woman has a rebellious trait in common with the fallen angel; as he refused to serve, so she refuses to suffer. He rebels against his own, God-willed, destiny.

The curse was pronounced in Paradise for punishment. Both the woman and the man were to suffer the punishment; but in the case of the woman, God especially emphasized the suffering.

All over the world until the coming of Christ (as well as Mary), the woman suffered the suffering that was pronounced in the curse: enslavement under the power of the man; servitude in the service of his body, motherhood without the right to a child.

The modern woman is the antipode of the pre-Christian woman: she is emancipated from the domination of men even in marriage; with her body, she does not serve the man or the preservation of the family, on the contrary: serving her passions, she enslaves the man, she allows motherhood only as long as she promises good from him, or rather she rejects him. Because it rejects suffering.

There is a whole world between these two women: the Christian woman.

Christ took the punishment from God, the despair of the curse, and transformed the tasks of punishment into means of salvation. From the curse of hard work for men and suffering for women, he redeemed mankind by both work and suffering; but with suffering he crowned the work of salvation. And if the price of his work consisted in obedience to the Father, in whose face man threw the temptation of the fallen angel and from his instruction said his Non serviam (I will not serve) – so obedience is essentially a female element; the Old Testament man and the man until the coming of Christ throughout the world, whether Jew or Gentile, was a hard master; and if he was a slave, then his wife was a slave’s slave.

Even after the immense reversal of the view of women in Christianity, which restored her equality with men, freed her from the services of the flesh, exalted motherhood through the cult of the Virgin Mother of God, the role of women remains the same as in the Old Testament, because the New Testament is only the fulfillment of the Old. What was a curse became a blessing. However, the woman’s will is not violated. A woman turns suffering into a blessing if she accepts it willingly, out of love for God. And that’s the only way he fulfills his destiny. Only in this way is he a living member of the Church, in which the work of salvation is accomplished.

The primal reaction of human nature to all pain, the movement to reject suffering, is too natural, it is animalistic. But then Christ comes and lifts us from the natural to the supernatural with the words: Take up your cross and follow me!

Accepting suffering is necessary; whoever rejects him rejects life. A man can only throw away his own, but a woman has demonic possibilities to hinder the Creator in his work and plans.

By accepting suffering, it has endless possibilities for creative help. Christianity teaches her to win over him, even to desire him.

Her nature helps her in this. He has a special capacity for suffering. Physically and mentally weaker and gentler suffer even when the man is not yet suffering. For this, he has the gift of greater patience and endurance. She gives in to suffering in such a way that it kneads, shapes, and chisels her, she does not give in to it in such a way that it breaks her. Melted in the fire of pain, she receives the deep frieze of the image of the Sufferer; moreover, it meets him from within with the feminine capacity for compassion, it is a living metal that works alone together with the grace of God on its formation. So many women have already had stigmata, but only one saint is stigmatized. (The text was written before the canonization of P. Pius note.) God’s response to the woman’s compassion was the image of the face of the Suffering in Veronica’s scarf.

By how the woman of a nation rejects suffering, chasing after pleasures of all kinds from the intellectual to the animal, we can measure to what extent that nation is turning away from Christianity and thus from life, and is tending to fall.

He rejects suffering! However, she does not escape him, but despairs of him, curses him. She who uses the name “love” in the language of poets does not understand God, who is Love. That God wants suffering from us, rather from a woman. Love presupposes suffering. The essence of Christianity is love. It is his main commandment: You shall love … both God and your neighbor. There is no greater love than to sacrifice one’s life. To sacrifice life in a moment, or to sacrifice it after days, that means suffering.

The modern woman does not give life, does not give to life; takes from life, greedily, takes and steals. Mark of the vampire, not the giver. The soul is stunted and barren by pleasures, even permitted and justified ones; only through suffering it grows to infinity.

God wants a woman to be a giver. She should be a mother first and foremost. The meaning of the mother lies in the fact (according to St. Thomas) that she populates heaven. Woe to the barren! Only virginity is sterile. Virginity is a higher kind of motherhood (St. Ambrosius, De virginibus) Even a virgin populates heaven with her sacrifice. Motherhood, like love, presupposes suffering.

A woman who does not want to suffer depopulates the world. An empty cradle, a child – a mannequin with a threaded head, a man – a degenerate eagle, crouched on the ground next to her like a hen, powerlessly beating the dust with stunted wings – this is her work. And finally, he looks back at the destruction he leaves behind with a grin of tears and a spit of curses. She didn’t avoid it. After all, he suffers, but – without blessing.

For consenting to suffer in humility and obedience, it is given to the Virgin Mary to have a share in the work of redemption. She consented to suffering, the most intelligent of human creatures, perfectly understanding the work of the Son. If a woman refuses to suffer, then it is a defect of intelligence. Even a simple woman, without a bookish education, precisely in suffering, when subconscious powers and abilities are awakened, through intuition she finds true wisdom, sweet and warm, with it she acts on dead souls like water from a living well; it penetrates the soul of the entire apostolate.

Our mothers were like that, whether in body or soul. They were able to suffer, to accept suffering, to love it. They bore the seal of the full dignity of a redeemed Christian woman on their souls: they deeply understood the dignity of the children of God, from whom God, condescending to the son of man in order to raise him to the sonship of God, wants participation and a share in the work of salvation through suffering. They understood what a woman has a head start on through suffering – that’s why they are the forerunners of the holy people. They went bravely, not shying away from the ideal, the Heavenly Gate, which bears the inscription: O vos omnes, qui transitis per viam…

If our nation is to return from the path that leads to physical and spiritual depopulation, to return to the paths of life, it must have women who love suffering; brave women who could accept, bear and sacrifice suffering; which themselves, elevated by suffering, would be able to breathe out love for all the physical and spiritual life of their children and men for their growth.

Brébery blinds the eyes and stifles faith.

“If I serve God, I can accept his will. In the case of a bribe, however, I am willing to replace God’s intervention with money, which is supposed to speed something up, to make a shortcut,” says PETER HALUŠŤOK (50), co-author of the Bible and finance project.

PETER HALUŠŤOK (1974) lives in Košice, is married, has three children. For years he worked in the financial sphere, today he deals with commercial and investment activities in the field of real estate. He is dedicated to spreading the teachings of the Holy Scriptures on the issue of money and property, and is the co-founder of the Bible and Finances project. 

Where to look for passages in the Holy Scriptures that talk about corruption?

In the Book of Exodus it is stated: “Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds even those whose eyes are open, and perverts the words of the righteous” (Ex 23, 8). In the Catholic translation of the Bible, the word gift is used in the given verse, in the latest ecumenical translation the word bribe. But the meaning is the same because it defines what happens if we are willing to violate Christian principles for money.

Will the New Testament also help us with orientation?

Yes, just mention the story of the soldiers who guarded the tomb of Jesus. When it remained empty, the high priests, after consulting with the elders, gave them a lot of money to say that while they were sleeping, Jesus’ disciples had stolen the body. So the soldiers gave false testimony for money. We know that bearing false witness is not right, and we also know from the Old Testament that money blinds the eyes. Under their influence, we suddenly begin to doubt whether it is necessary to always be honest, and we do something that we would not do otherwise. Judas also loved Jesus, but he betrayed him for thirty pieces of silver. It is important to realize Jesus’ words that we cannot serve both God and mammon.

How to apply it to the topic of corruption?

If I serve God, I can accept his will in my life. However, in the case of a bribe, I am willing to replace God’s intervention with money, which is supposed to speed something up, to make a shortcut. If we choose a form that is against the criminal law, the word of God or the morals of a Christian, then I think it is not correct.

Can you give a specific example?

The child was not admitted to the school, but I have contact with the representative of the school, who indicated that if a donation was found, the child would be admitted. And now it’s about whether I will figure out in prayer whether it is even God’s will for my child to go to that school, and whether I will hand it over to his holy hands. I can only do this if I truly believe that God is with me in my life. The second option is to take it into your own hands and give the money in an attempt to secure the child’s future, which rationally makes sense to me, because I think about his good. But I’m getting to the point where my heart has decided to go to safety instead of accepting God’s action.

It’s easier said than done…

That’s right. However, we are to bring glory to God in everything we do in our lives, and I don’t think using monetary or material bribes is the way God wants us to honor him. Even my own son did not get into the school we had chosen as a family. How did it turn out? Today I hear only negative things about her. On the contrary, in the school that we had second in line and accepted him there, he feels happy, blessed with friendships and a good team. If I had decided it for God, I would blame myself for it in retrospect. God does not want us to blame ourselves and feel uneasy, and in order for God to bless us, we should avoid sin. A Christian is supposed to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth, so he should obey the law.

The use of “observable” is justified by the fact that everyone does it, and otherwise we would not have accomplished anything. What do you say to such a view?

Again, I recommend reading in the Holy Scriptures, in the twelfth chapter of the Letter to the Romans, it is written that we should not be conformed to this world. So when someone else does something, it doesn’t mean we have to too. When we had a debate with entrepreneurs about honesty, their reaction was that if we have to do it this way, then we won’t even go into business, because it won’t pay off for us. I’ll tell you the truth, we left shocked.

You yourself run a business and move in these circles. Is it really possible to make a living here without bribes and acquaintances?

Yes, but sometimes it goes slower. God defines in the Book of Proverbs that the desire to get rich quickly is against his plans. This desire often leads us astray, and we are willing to sacrifice morals, health, and family relationships. Mammon breaks while God sanctifies.

Have you ever abused the fact that money allowed you to afford a lot?

When I was young and foolish, I felt that bribes made me untouchable on the road. There were no modern recording devices yet, there were only the eyes and ears of me and the policeman who stopped me for a traffic violation. It was just about how much he would ask. It’s sad, and I certainly wouldn’t do it again now. Everyone should bear the consequences of their actions and thus learn to be a better person.

In the ranking of corruption, Slovakia regularly ranks among the highest in the European Union. How does big corruption in politics, business, and justice affect small ones?

Very much. There are countries where there are big penalties for corruption. After all, if we use corruption in high places to justify our little one, then the whole world around us is going in the wrong direction. And when we consciously sin, our relationship with God deteriorates. It is difficult for us to say: God, I do my own thing, but you heal my daughter. As for politicians, today it is very difficult to remain firm in the faith in the face of the pitfalls that high politics offers. This also applies to large-scale business.

Do you have personal experience with this?

I worked in real estate, and when we were selling certain properties, the clients wanted us to keep some money out of the contract. I didn’t agree with that which I lost the whole business. Furthermore, I believe that sometimes we have to be prepared to lose something in order to maintain our integrity. I need money, but do I want to risk that God will stop blessing me? As I mentioned, we are to do everything for God’s glory. So God can ask: How do you glorify me with your business when you act like this? How can you set an example for others? When we build wealth through fraud, then we cannot say that God built it, for he is honest and just. We humans will never be perfect, but we can make choices. I refused the offer then, and I think I gained much more than I lost, firstly peace of mind. Otherwise, I would live in fear of what would happen if the detectives called me. I have already experienced being called to testify, and I could go there with peace of mind.

However, when we hear about million-dollar bribes in high places, are you surprised that the common man relativizes his guilt if he “only” gives, say, a bottle of alcohol?

We can go back to the Bible verse that a bribe blinds. The result is a dulling of the conscience, and there is a danger that a person will gradually get used to these things, just as he might get used to infidelity and other matters. We Christians have to take up the cross of Jesus and do things honestly. Either you believe in God or your own strength, I don’t see a third option. When we give a bribe, we usually feel less guilt than if we accept it. But what if the person to whom we gave it received them in large quantities, they will find out and call us to court? Are we going to lie that we didn’t bribe him? If we use a lie, that is again a sin, and this is how we get more and more entangled in it. Of course, the situation when we give the bottle or the dessert after the fact should be viewed differently as a thank-you. However, not out of the calculation that in two weeks we will need this person again. It is necessary to distinguish the circumstances and whether I really have a clear conscience.

Can we take a situation where we can help ourselves with bribes as a certain test?

It is a test of our character. If we pass through it, we gain in God’s eyes. A person should perceive that God is standing somewhere near him and watching how he behaves. What if these are all trials and God wants to bless us more if we endure? However, when we use bribes, a verse from the Bible may apply to us: He who is dishonest in a little is dishonest also in much.

However, we perceive serious illness or other misfortune as a test of faith.

We often exclude the area of ​​money from the Christian life. We tell ourselves that faith is one thing and managing our finances is another. In reality, however, it is closely related, which is why even Jesus taught a lot through stories and parables related to possessions. As the seeds sown in the ground were choked with thorns and thistles, so having riches can choke our faith. Last but not least, we also set an example for our children.

How to leave these trails of small and large bribes trampled in our society?

First, you need to pray for it. Then look in the Holy Scriptures for what the wisdom of God’s word says. And also when we are tempted to bribe, it helps to tell someone who we assume will be against it, such as a wife or a priest. In this way, we do not create a path in our head in order to find approval for our actions, but quite the opposite.

With those two coins that the poor widow threw into the temple treasury, no one would have made a hole in the world. Let’s face it. And yet Christ remained enchanted at the sight of the anonymous lady with her minuscule contribution. I like that Christ did not look at her gift bound by human standards of performance. God has other criteria. I like that the judgments of my God are different from those of men. I like the fact that two quiet sixes can be more likeable to him than a clanging and glowing pile of metal. I love God’s Holy Spirit. I wish that Jesus could free them from the pressure that nothing they do or everything they give is ever enough. I wish they could hear that it is okay to do only as much as we can: to do as much as we can and not someone else, because we may have less power than someone else, and to do only as much as we can today and not we yesterday, because today we may have less power than we had yesterday. Let us not place on ourselves burdens that cannot be borne, let us not evaluate our performances according to the abilities of others, nor according to our abilities once.

I wish this message could reach children who can’t pass the A – level – maybe even the B-level, even with all their might-but parents are still pushing them into the A’s and comparing them to brilliant preschoolers. I wish they could hear that it’s okay to get a three if they can only learn to get a three, that they don’t have to be all units, but do their best to get a three and not a four or a ball. Let your sacrifice also be inconspicuous! I will not subject it to predetermined criteria of effectiveness, and in you, a grain of wheat that has fallen into the ground and died, I will see a blessing for a great harvest, for a life that lasts forever and is forever our home.

Anniversary of the consecration of the Lateran Basilica.

The Lateran Basilica is one of the four main basilicas of the Church. It is located in the Lateran Square in Rome, next to the Lateran Palace. The origin of the name Lateran goes back to the time around the birth of Christ. At that time, the Lateran Palace belonged to the Lateran family. Her last offspring was murdered by Emperor Nero. The palace then became the property of the emperor. When Constantine the Great ascended the imperial throne, he donated the entire palace to Pope Sylvester I. It then became the residence of the popes and remained so for almost a thousand years. But in 1308 it burned down, so the Pope moved to the Vatican Palace. The ruins of the burnt palace were removed by Pope Sixtus V in 1586. After the removal of the ruins, they built a new, current palace, but it is much smaller. But the popes have already stayed in the Vatican. By order of Pope John XXIII. there they established a Roman vicariate; The Lateran Palace thus became the seat of the Roman bishopric. The bishop (cardinal) who represents St. Father in charge of the Diocese of Rome.

The Lateran Basilica is the first of all Roman basilicas. Sometimes it is also called the “mother of all churches”. Other basilicas are: Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican, Basilica of St. Paul on the Ostia Way (fuori le mura – behind the city walls) and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore . The Lateran Basilica was originally dedicated to the Most Holy Savior. Only later did they. St. to this patronage. John, the apostle  , and St. John the  Baptist. It was originally a five-nave church that was built during the time of Pope Miltiades in 310-314. But this temple was destroyed several times – by Vandals in the 5th century, by an earthquake in the 9th century and by a fire in the 17th century. The current church dates from the 17th century. At that time, Pope Innocent X commissioned the famous architect Borromini to restore the basilica from the ground up. The facade of the temple dates from 1735 and the apse from 1885. The main facade was built from travertine by Alexander Galilei. On the upper railing there are fifteen statues representing Christ, St. John, the apostle, St. John the Baptist and church teachers. Five gates lead to the basilica, one of which is the so-called Porta sancta (Holy Gate), which is opened only during grace (jubilee) years. The basilica is 130 meters long and currently has five naves. It should be noted, however, that Borromini’s reconstruction took away its basilicas style, since every two columns were connected by walls, and he inserted chapels between several double columns. The interior furnishings and decoration are very rich, as they were created over the centuries.

In front of the basilica, there is a statue of St. Francis of Assisi(from 1927), who raises his hands to the Lateran. This gesture recalls the meeting of Francis with Pope Innocent III, who had previously seen him in a dream saving the bursting Lateran Basilica, which was then still the papal temple and represented the entire Church in the dream. Many synods and five general church assemblies (councils) have been held in the basilica over the course of history. In 1929, the so-called Lateran Treaty – agreement between the Vatican State and Italy.

The Lateran Basilica is therefore deeply inscribed in the history of the Church as the venue for many events connected with church and secular life. The anniversary of her consecration was at first a matter only for the Roman Diocese, only later it was extended to the whole Church.
